Common Symptoms for Registry Problems

What are the common symptoms for registry problems? This is a question that not many of us think about. This is only natural since many people do not even know that there is such a thing as a Windows registry. It is important however to be concerned about registry problems. This is because the registry is intimately connected to the performance of your computer.

Inevitable Problems

Microsoft did hit the mark when they thought of creating the registry. Essentially, it is a database that stores the changes that you make in your computer. Its function is necessary. When you open your computer, it is the registry that helps determine what settings, applications and options are to be provided. If you have been using your computer for quite some time, you are bound to have accumulated a long record of installations and setting modifications. At some point, you may have chosen to undo some of what you have installed. This is where the potential problem may arise.

Not everything that you choose to uninstall really gets fully removed. The remaining entries in your registry may be the reason behind potential problems. Since every computer user has installed and uninstalled at some point, it is pretty obvious that registry problems are nearly always inevitable. You have a higher risk of encountering problems the longer you use your computer.

The severity of registry problems will vary. In some cases, systems may only be slightly affected. In other cases, users may completely be unable to use their systems. Regardless of how badly your registry is clogged up, one thing is certain, you lose valuable PC efficiency.

Symptoms

Fortunately, there are common symptoms for windows registry problems. You can watch out for these so you can immediately perform repair. Here are some symptoms you should be aware of:

• One of the top symptoms is the slowness of start up. This happens because the system reviews even those items that are still partially present despite your attempt to uninstall. Aside from a slow start up, shut down can take a lot of time. In some cases, slowing down may also be observed whenever you use your computer. Your screen could even freeze in the middle of a task.

• Freezing is not your only problem. In a lot of cases, your PC could crash too while you are in the middle of something. Crashes are typically marked by a blue screen.

• Some programs that you have used in the past may not open when you click on them. In some cases, they may reopen only after you shut down your PC and turn it on again.

• Error messages also become more frequent with registry problems. Sometimes the errors appear whenever you try to install new applications.

Zeroing In

Sometimes the symptoms may not be severe or obvious. This may lead you to think that you have other problems besides registry issues. This may be true to some extent. The best way to make sure that you really have a registry problem is to rule out other problems.

Before you mull over Windows registry problem solutions perform some basic tasks. One of these is to run an updated virus scan. If a virus is the cause of your problems, a good scanner can take care of it in a few minutes. You should expect to notice improvements if a virus is the main culprit. Aside from scans, you should also perform basic clean up. Disk clean up tasks can be performed using the built in tool in your system. If symptoms persist, it must be your registry that has problems.

The common symptoms for registry problems can really be a source of headaches. They can however, be resolved. The first step to repair though is always recognition of the problem first.

* Windows Registry Tip

Always use "Add or Remove Programs" to remove your installed Software. Do not just delete it directly from your registry!

It's important to use the "Add or Remove Programs" option otherwise you can corrupt other parts of the system if the deleted software happen to be sharing any of the same files.
